Former WZIS promotions director Abi Scharton has won a national award from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) for her work at the student-staffed radio station.
Scharton, a Communication major from Greenwood who graduated in May, won first place as best promotions director in the Len Mallioux Media Management contest, beating out finalists from the University of West Georgia and the University of Tennessee at Martin.
It is the second first place award this year from IBS for WZIS, 90.7. Previously, Scharton and Darian Davenport won for best community outreach for their work on the Toys for Tots campaign. WZIS also was a finalist for eight other IBS awards, including best station on a campus over 10,000 students.
