WZIS recently received three additional awards for work completed during the 2018-2019 school year.
At the College Broadcasters Inc. 2019 National Student Production Awards, WZIS was presented with second place for Best Newscast Audio for work done by Garrett Short, a May 2019 graduate of Indiana State. Short’s work was also recognized at the College Media Association Pinnacle Awards, where he was awarded third place for Best Radio Newscast and Best Radio Sportscast.
Rich Green, general manager of WISU and WZIS, said Short was his go-to news and sports person since he joined WZIS his freshman year.
“The awards that we won recently are great work by a student who has won in many different organizations. It’s really proving how well the work we do here is received by organizations nationally.”
Green said Short was excited to hear about the awards, not only for the recognition he received, but for the potential that current WZIS students have to win awards in the future.
These awards come in addition to several others received earlier this year, including being honored by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System as the Best College Radio Station in the Nation during their conference in February of 2019.
Nominations for the next year of IBS awards will be released in December, with the awards ceremony taking place in early March.
“I don’t really worry too much about nominations and awards, I just want to make sure the station is growing and doing the best it possibly can do,” Green said. “The awards give students something to work for, but it’s certainly not something I expect every year.”
