ISU softball splits series with Eastern Illinois

The Sycamores competed in a midweek Doubleheader in Charleston against the Eastern Illinois Panthers. ISU won the first game of the series, 5-0 before losing the next game to the Panthers, 4-0.

In the first game, ISU fifth year senior pitcher Gabi Schnaiter recorded three strikeouts and 16 at bats in her fifth win on the season. She only had two hits on the night of the three total hits in the game as she pitched 74 times.

ISU had seven total hits to add to the five runs they scored. Sycamore senior outfielder Bella Peterson performed well at the plate as she tallied a hit, a run, an RBI and a walk. Junior Catcher Annie Tokarek added on to the win with a hit that led to two RBIs.

The Sycamores offense was off to a hot start as they would score in the first inning as Tokarek’s first RBI would come off a Mallory Marsicek score.  ISU would not score until the fifth inning in which they scored three runs. 

In the next game, EIU would start just as hot as they scored all four of their runs in the first inning.

The Sycamores offense went cold with only four Trees recording hits, coming from Bella Peterson, Annie Tokarek, Amanda Guercio and Lexie Siwek.

EIU pitcher Olivia Prive tallied her eighth win for her season as she pitched about five and a half innings and only had three hits.

Panther redshirt senior Haley Mitchell contributed the most hits in the game with two and also tallied a RBI. Eastern Illinois offense had seven hits on the night.

With the end of this series, EIU is now 18-11 on the season and 10-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Indiana State is now 11-17 and 4-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Indiana State will travel to Des Moines, Iowa for a three game-series with the Drake Bulldogs,  Apr. 10-11 with the doubleheader to begin Saturday at 1 p.m. The series will wrap up Sunday with a single game beginning at noon.
