The Indiana State University Student Recreation Center implemented additional safety protocols on August 14, 2020, to protect visitors during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“ALL individuals must wear a face covering when inside the Student Recreation Center,” said a PDF issued by the Office of Campus Recreation and found on the Student Recreation Center’s homepage, “The face covering can be taken off while using cardio equipment and swimming in SRC pool.”
The Student Recreation Center Third Phase regulations will allow visitors to use cardio equipment, weight room equipment, and the indoor track. However, the equipment will be available in limited quantities to ensure social distancing guidelines.
“Limited weight room equipment is available,” the Office of Campus Recreation PDF said, “All equipment has been moved to accommodate social distancing guidelines. Face coverings must be worn at all times when using equipment. This area will be cleaned periodically throughout the day by Campus Recreation staff.”
Similar social distancing guidelines apply to other areas of the Student Recreation Center including the pool, gymnasiums, and hot tub.
“The SRC Pool is open, lap lanes can be shared as long as swimmers start at opposite sides of pool. SRC hot tub is open at limited capacity and social distancing,” the Office of Campus Recreation PDF said, “3-Court Gymnasium will be open with limited recreation available: Face coverings are required at all times with limited recreation available, basketball-2 persons per goal, pickleball and badminton-singles or doubles, and volleyball-4 on 4.”
Group activities will be held in-person and virtually. Swim lessons and personal training courses are open for registration and instruction.
“Group exercise classes have been moved to the Multi-Activity Court to maintain social distancing guidelines,” the PDF said, “Yoga will be held in the Group Exercise Studio and face coverings are required for this class.”
The Third Phase regulations also outlined amenities that will be closed for the fall 2020 semester at Indiana State University. These features include the sauna, juice bar seating area, and water fountains.
Services that will be offline after these protocols go into effect include restricted access to the Group Exercise Room, guest passes will no longer be sold, and cash will no longer be accepted.
“The group exercise rooms and Multi-Activity Court will only be used for Campus Recreation programming,” the PDF said, “ Cash will no longer be accepted (permanent policy). Acceptable forms of payment include, check, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover.”
