The Indiana State men’s basketball team will open their season in their on the road in Wisconsin. The Sycamores will be going into the competition coming off an 82-60 exhibition victory over Rose Hulman.

ISU will be challenged with adversity from the beginning as it was announced that star guard Tyreke Key is out for the season.

“Tyreke’s decision to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery was the only choice after speaking with the doctor,” explained head basketball coach Josh Schertz. “Both in short and long term, doing the surgery gives Tyreke the best chance to have the basketball career he wants and the quality-of-life post basketball.”

With Key out that leaves room for players such as Cooper Neese and other veterans to step up against Green Bay. Neese led the Sycamores in scoring in the exhibition with 16 total points.

Indiana State leads the overall series 3-1 against Green Bay. The last time these two squads faced off ISU enjoyed a 78-74 victory in Wisconsin in 2018. In that game Key was a factor as he was second in scoring for the Sycamores in scoring with 22 points.

Last season Green Bay finished their season 8-17. They are also on a three-game losing stretch against Indiana State.

Xavier Bledsom is a player ISU will need to execute since this Key injury. Bledsom finished the exhibition competition with 15 points, finishing just an assist away from a double-double.

Tipoff for this game will be tonight at 8pm at the Kress Center in Green Bay.
