Volleyball set for national postseason tournament

Freshman Emma Best prepares her fellow Sycamores for their match against Northern Iowa on Nov. 12.

The Indiana State volleyball team will participate in the first round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship tonight in Valparaiso, Indiana. Toledo will be the first opponent for the Sycamores. If ISU defeats the Rockets, they will face whoever wins out of Butler or Valparaiso in the championship.

The Sycamores have a record of 18-12. They are entering the competition with momentum against Toledo as they have secured a winning record this season for the first time since 2015. ISU enjoyed just their second victory conference match in program history.

Indiana State also has standouts such as Melina Tedrow who have built momentum throughout the season. Tedrow is fourth in the ISU record books for career digs with 1,692. Chloe Mason is second in the conference 60th nationally with .39 aces per set. The Sycamores also enjoyed their 500th victory last Saturday.

Toledo is 19-12 this season and 10-8 in their conference. This will be the Rockets sixth time meeting up with the Sycamores. Last time these two squads met up Indiana State got sweeped 3-0 in 2019. Toledo leads the all-time series over ISU 3-2. Taylor Alt is leading the Rockets offense with 450 kills this season. They will be stout upfront against ISU as Olivia Vance has racked up 88 blocks this season. The Toledo defense is led by Sinalauli’i Uluave as she has 289 digs under her belt.

The match will take place at 5pm tonight. If Indiana State wins they will advance to the championship and play at 7pm Friday.
