The Indiana State Men’s Basketball team is currently on a six-game win streak and a four-game home win streak. The Missouri Valley Conference decided early in the season that conference teams would place each other in back-to-back games. For ISU their streak started on January 16th with a road win against Illinois State, defeating the Redbirds 73-65. ISU played them against on Sunday the 17th, having another great performance and winning 74-68. After a week of rest the Sycamores took to their home court, the Hulman Center to play their last four home games of the season. The Sycamores first home win came in a close contest against the Southern Illinois Salukis by a score of 69 to 66. It was a battle of experience vs youth, as the Sycamores had a good spread between the classes of freshman to seniors. The Salukis were a young team compromised mostly of freshman and sophomores, who turned out be one of the youngest score’s teams in the entire NCAA. It the second matchup, the younger energy of the Salukis faded early, and the experience of the Sycamores came through in a big 71 – 59 win.
In Sycamores last two home games before their three-game road trip, the Sycamores took on the MVC Tournament Champions, the Bradley Braves. The first game took place on Sunday, January 31st as the game came down to the final possession with Indiana State clutching out a close 60-57 victory. The next game saw a lot of domination from the Sycamores in the second half, gaining a strong win against a tough Braves team with a score of 67 to 55. For Indiana State they are led by senior Guard Tyreke Key, who is averaging 15 points and 5 rebounds and sophomore Jake La’Ravia who averages 12 points and 6 rebounds a game. Indiana State’s current record going into their three-game road trip, is 10-7 overall and 7- 5 in MVC conference play, which places them fourth in the conference.
The Sycamores will trave to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on the Northern Iowa. The first game tips off on Saturday, February 6 at 6pm on ESPN 2.
